Orlando SEO Company Update: Adwords Harmonizes use of Trademarks

by | Apr 9, 2013 | Pay per Click

Many business owners out there are extremely competitive and call on our Orlando SEO Company to handle their Adwords needs as get The Clicks has a lot of experience in this arena.

About two and a half weeks ago, Google made yet another important change to Adwords, this time dealing with trademarks. According to Google, the definition of Trademark is: A symbol, word, or words legally registered or established by use as representing a company or product.

A few popular trademarks are Nike, Volkswagon, and pretty much any registered company name or symbol. The reason we are writing this blog, is because our highly competitive clients will often request to use trademarks as keywords into their  campaign. Say for example that you are a local jeweler and your competitor Jared is running ad campaigns online. In order to compete, it is recommended that not only a campaign be created targeting keywords that your potential customers use to find a jeweler locally, but to also create a campaign targeting your competitors. By placing trademarks as keywords, anytime a local web surfer searches for a particular jeweler in your area, your ad may appear at the top of the search results (instead of the competitors ad) and in essence, you drive traffic and potential sales away from their site.

Sounds a bit aggressive, but this tactic is used quite often, and is nothing new here in the U.S. Unfortunately the use of trademarks as keywords was not allowed in other parts of the world for some time. Countries such as Hong Kong, Brazil, China, Australia, New Zealand and etc… were not allowed to create campaigns utilizing company names.

The latest policy update will now make it acceptable worldwide for Adwords users to utilize trademarks as keywords. This global policy change will begin on April 23rd to the delight of many competitive business owners and Adwords campaign managers across the world.

Some critics argue that this policy change might lead to much higher bids and costs, but only time will tell. Let us know what you think by commenting on your favorite Orlando Seo Company  (Get The Clicks) blog response box below!
